Early access
Volunteer screening, from Planning Center
For churches that use Planning Center, and the staff who look after volunteer screening.
Works with Protect My Ministry (Planning Center 2.0 integration) and Checkr.
Shield is in early access with a few Planning Center churches. It opens to everyone soon.
The problem
Every screening view starts from a check record. A volunteer who never had one isn’t late or missing on any list: they simply aren’t there. Shield starts from who is actually serving instead.
What Shield shows
The questions screening staff ask every week, answered on one screen. The figures below are samples, made up to show the shape.
9
3 before their next shift. Shield reads the schedule, so someone with no check record at all still shows up here.
184
of 207 people serving hold a clearance in force.
12
7
2 stalled, and listed on their own.
23
Cleared and rostered with children. Shown when your church uses training.
Worklists
Shield opens on Needs action: each row is a count, and opening it lists the people. Every name links to their Planning Center profile, where the work happens.
Clearances coming due, month by month. Shield looks two years ahead, so a heavy month is seen before it arrives.
Works with
With Protect My Ministry's Planning Center 2.0 integration, checks land in Planning Center People, and Shield reads them there. For safety training, an admin can import Protect My Ministry's training export.
Checks run through Checkr's Planning Center integration are recorded in People, and Shield reads them the same way.
Shield connects to Planning Center's API and nothing else. It never logs in to your screening provider and never orders a check.
Shield isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Protect My Ministry or Checkr, and it doesn't run background checks. Your church's screening provider does.
How it works
Shield reads background checks from People and schedules from Services, with Planning Center's own sign-in.
Tick which Services teams Shield counts, and which of them require training. New teams wait for your decision.
Open a count, see the names, and follow each one to Planning Center. Shield reads again every night.
Trust
Shield never orders a check, sends an invitation, emails a volunteer or changes anything in Planning Center.
Names, and anything opened from a list, are read live with your own Planning Center account. If you can't see it there, you won't see it here.
Shield keeps statuses, dates and ids: enough to count and to list. Reports, scores and note text stay in Planning Center.
Shield is open to a few Planning Center churches first. Ask about early access, or look around the demo: it runs on sample data.
